Inclusive Instructional Pedagogy

Our inclusive pedagogy instructional coaches, Brian Jackson, MA (English) and Jasmine Yap, Ph.D. (Science), are professional educators and experts in their respective disciplines. They lead design teams with the goal of eliminating equity gaps in English and Science gateway courses. In English, ENG 121 and ENG 122 serve as the gateway to all A.A. and other degree programs. In Science, BIO 111, CHE 101 and BIO 201 serve as gateway courses for STEM and pre-nursing students.

The coaches collaborate with faculty and instructors to improve retention, completion, and success rates in these English and Science gateway courses. Design teams are composed of faculty and instructors of gateway courses dedicated to the transformation of the educational experience for underserved student populations. They utilize student data, student feedback, and pedagogical research in the development of curricular changes, interventions and instructor training programs specific to CCA’s student population. By doing so, the teams aim to disrupt dominant ideologies and make the classroom an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsive
